Bilingual Communications

At the Nature Center, we understand that our community is increasingly bilingual. To meet the communication needs of as many visitors as possible, our U.S. Fish & Wildlife Staff and some of our volunteers speak English and Spanish.

We diligently try to make all of our signage and printed materials bilingual, and we have built into this website the ability for you to choose either an English or Spanish version.

Locate the selection point at the right end of the top menu on each site page (See image at top right). Click anywhere near the name of the current language, then click on the alternate language in the drop-down menu. When changed, all text on our pages should be translated into your language of choice.
(Note: This may not affect imported documents on our site.)

Accessibility on our website

Ankeny Hill Nature Center strives to ensure its services are accessible to people with disabilities. Ankeny Hill Nature Center has invested significant resources to help ensure that its website is made easier to use and more accessible for people with disabilities, with the strong belief that every person has the right to live with dignity, equality, comfort, and independence.

Our website, https://www.ankenyhillnaturecenter.org/, makes the UserWay Website Accessibility Widget  (shown on the right) powered by a dedicated accessibility server. This software allows the Nature Center to improve its compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1).

The Nature Center continues to improve the accessibility of its site and services. Our collective moral obligation is to allow seamless, accessible, and unhindered use for people with disabilities.

Enabling the Accessibility Menu

The accessibility menu can be enabled either by hitting the tab key when the page first loads, typing the “CTRL+U“ keys on Windows or the “⌘+U” keys on Apple, or by clicking the accessibility menu icon (shown at right) that appears in the lower left corner of every page on this website.. After triggering the accessibility menu, please wait a moment for it to load.

We work to identify and fix every possible accessibility barrier on our site. Despite our efforts to make all pages and content on the site fully accessible, some content may not have yet been fully adapted to the strictest accessibility standards. This may result from not finding or identifying the most appropriate technological solution.
